The Next Level Doesn't Come Without Real Rest

By Dylan Dejonghe

Let me say something that might mess with your theology a little bit.

You prayed for the next level. You fasted for it. You believed God for it. And now that it's coming.. now that the doors are starting to open.. you're running on empty. You're anxious. You're exhausted. You're making decisions out of fear instead of faith.

That's not a blessing problem. That's a rest problem.

The Next Level Requires a Stronger Version of You

Everybody wants to go higher. Nobody wants to do what going higher actually requires.

Here's the truth: the next level of your life doesn't need a louder version of you. It doesn't need a busier version of you. It needs a stronger version of you. A calmer version. A more disciplined version. A version of you that has actually learned how to rest.

Most people confuse rest with laziness. That's your first mistake.

Laziness is avoiding what needs to be done. Rest is preparing yourself to do it better. Those are not the same thing. They are not even close to the same thing. And until you understand the difference, you will keep burning yourself out on the way to the very thing God is calling you into.

Survival Mode Is Not a Life Strategy

I've been there. Running on stress for years. Constant noise, constant pressure, constant overthinking.. treating the chaos like it's just the price of ambition.

It's not. It's a trap.

When you never slow down mentally, when you never slow down emotionally and spiritually, you start making bad decisions. Not because you're weak. Because you're human. And humans were not designed to operate at full speed forever without stopping.

Some of you are answering every phone call. Responding to every text. Jumping into every problem, every drama, every emergency. And then you wonder why you feel disconnected from yourself, from God, from everything that actually matters.

You cannot keep giving everybody access to your energy and expect to stay clear on the inside. It does not work like that.

Even Jesus Rested. Think About That.

The Son of God stepped away. He prayed alone. He withdrew from the crowds. He slept in the boat in the middle of a storm and not because the storm wasn't real, but because His peace was bigger than the storm.

So why do you think you have to be emotionally available to everyone, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?

You were not made for everybody. You were made for your purpose. And your purpose requires that you protect your energy like it's sacred.. because it is.

Benjamin Franklin said, "If you empty your purse into your mind, your mind will fill your purse with gold."

Here's my version of that: if you pour everything out of yourself for everybody else, there will be nothing left for the thing God actually called you to do.

Rest is not weakness. Rest is wisdom.

Uncomfortable Doesn't Mean Failing

Here's another thing I need you to hear.

Stop panicking every time something feels hard. Growth is uncomfortable. Becoming disciplined is uncomfortable. Outgrowing old versions of yourself is deeply, profoundly uncomfortable.

But uncomfortable is not failure. Uncomfortable is often exactly what growth feels like.

Romans 5 says suffering produces perseverance, and perseverance character, and character hope. Meaning some of the hardest seasons of your life are building something in you that easy seasons never could.

The challenge you're in right now might not be punishment. It might be preparation.

The Next Level Is About More Than What You Think

Some of you have been praying for the next level and imagining it as purely financial. More money, more success, more recognition.

But what good is more money if your mind still lives in fear? What good is more influence if you have no peace? What good is a bigger platform if you're too burned out to stand on it?

God wants you healthy. God wants you focused. God wants you stable. Not just successful.. stable.

You prayed for peace. But peace also comes from learning what not to entertain anymore. It comes from letting go of cycles that have never served you. It comes from having the courage to stop revisiting the same draining environments, the same toxic patterns, the same people who are committed to staying exactly where they are.

Stop Shrinking to Stay Connected

Everybody cannot go where you're headed.

I know that's hard. I know some of those relationships mean a lot to you. But shrinking yourself just to stay connected to people who refuse to grow is not loyalty.. it's self-sabotage.

You don't need everybody to understand your growth. You just need to stay committed to it.

Galatians 6:9 says, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

Don't quit now. Not on your healing. Not on your discipline. Not on your faith. Not on your rest.

Protect Your Peace Like Your Future Depends on It โ€” Because It Does

Where God is taking you, you are going to need clarity. You are going to need sharp thinking, a healthy mind, a rested spirit. You cannot get there running on fumes and calling it faith.

Start waking up earlier. Pray before you pick up your phone. Journal. Move your body. Read something that sharpens you instead of numbing you.

Stop treating burnout like it's a badge of honor. It's not. It's a warning sign.

Real rest is not a reward you earn after you succeed. Real rest is one of the disciplines that gets you there.

The next level requires better habits. Stronger boundaries. Deeper faith. And yes.. real, intentional, unapologetic rest.

Protect your peace, my friend.

Where you're going, you're going to need it.
